The clubhouse is a log cabin style lodge, with a glass-fronted seating with balconies overlooking the 9th & 18th greens and sea. With a well-stocked and affordable bar, tea, coffee and light snacks available. We offer a delicious full breakfast menu – with our much loved bacon and sausage butties. Our lunch menu has locally sourced produce and all “home cooked” with specialities each day. Soft spikes are allowed in the clubhouse and we have 1 small shower room. We are currently building full changing rooms due to be ready in summer 2020.

We are available for private events such as weddings, christenings, birthdays and funerals, up to 80 people seating, 100 standing. Room only or catered - enquire at info@sharpleygolf.co.uk for prices.

The clubhouse is open 7am until 6pm winter and 6.00am until 8pm in summer.

Course Layout

We have beautiful contours, elevated tees revealing majestic fairways that flow through the natural valleys, intermingled with water features that lead onto testing much talked about Mackenzie greens. The links-like contouring provides the best definition, with risk and reward routes to challenge you without an over burden of trees to hassle you, allowing you to enjoy those great views out to sea.

History of the Course

Image

The melting of the last ice age created four small valleys and mounding known as drumlins. The Roman road Arbeia (South Shields) to Harte was under the first fairway. The 18th, ”St.Cuthbert’s Way”, note the symbolic cross, is where the  monks carried the coffin and soon became stuck in 995, vision took them to Durham. The fertile dairy and arable land was converted and constructed to a golf course and lakes by the Weightmans. Simon Weightman designed all the greens and more.
